The excitement of the July 4 celebration will begin at 6 p.m., and end with fireworks at 9:45. The City of LaFayette, LaFayette Woman’s Club, and the Walker County Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the event.
The event will feature childrens’ activities, including rock climbing and a moonwalk. Exhibits will be on display and the LaFayette Wal-mart will sponsor a 3-on-3 basketball game with all proceeds to benefit the Children’s Miracle Network.
Participants must pay $12 to compete in the basketball game. Winners will receive trophies.
An “Old Timers Ball Game” will take place at 7 p.m. A Big League Pitch Contest will feature radar monitoring, and prizes will be awarded for balls thrown faster than 50 mph. Campbell Surveying and Mapping of LaFayette are donating prizes for the pitching events. Several bands will also perform.
Visitors are encouraged to bring a lounge chair to relax and enjoy the day. No alcoholic beverages are permitted. Food vendors will be set up throughout the park.
An estimated 4,000 people will be part of the festival, according to the Chamber of Commerce.
