Northwest Whitfield outshot, outplayed and outwitted the 7-AAAA competition on Tuesday, April 25, in Calhoun at the area tourney.

The Bruins scored 298 points to runner-up Dalton’s 304, and placed five golfers in the top 10.

Northwest’s Hudson Keener won the individual title with a

72, defeating Dalton’s Andy King in a sudden death playoff.

Hiram was third with 319 points followed by Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (337) and Murray County (343) rounded out the top five.

LFO’s Rudie Lee and Scott Melton finished in the top nine overall.

Lee fired a 76 to tie with Chris Gordon of Northwest Whitfield.

Melton shot a 78 to finish sixth in a three-way tie with Jordan Black of Northwest and Tyler Gilbert of Murray County.

7-AAAA girls action



The Hornets stung the playing field on Monday, April 24 in LaFayette at the Region 7-AAAA girl’s tournament.

Hiram finished first with a score of 162 to runner-up Ridgeland’s 174. This is the third consecutive year the Panthers have finished second.

Woodland finished third with a 179 followed by Northwest Whitfield (181), Murray County (202), Ringgold (205), East Paulding (208), Dalton (211), Southeast Whitfield (229) and

Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe (232).

Carey Barbee of Woodland won the overall competition. She carded a 75.

Christy Hawes of Ringgold was the only golfer from Catoosa

County to finish in the top five. She tied with Dee Dee Davenport of Northwest Whitfield for fifth with an 84
