Ringgold will face a lawsuit soon unless the City Council grants a beer and wine license to a convenience store in the Welcome Hill community. In two previous meetings, the council denied the license. Store owner Amin Abdul Ali requested a license during the first meeting. Property owner Lauren Petty sought a license during the second meeting. In both meetings, Councilwoman Martha Denton asked the council to deny the license, with Councilman Bill McMillon seconding her motion. They claim that, according to city ordinance, the wishes of nearby residents is the most important factor in deciding whether to grant a license. The store, ABC Convenience Store and Tobacco Outlet No. 8, is on Ooltewah-Ringgold Road. More than 50 people from the neighborhood, as well as members of Welcome Hill Baptist Church and others opposed to the license, attended both council meetings
