COMMUNITY · Body 4 Believers is coming to Second Baptist Church, 500 W. Main Street, on Mondays in March from 7-8:30 p.m. This is not an exercise program. It is simply a class to teach you the correct foods to eat to lose weight properly. There is no charge for attending. For more information or directions please contact the office at 706-638-2732.

COMMUNITY · The Walker County Extension Office will hold a “Farm Safety Workshop” on Monday, March 4, at 6 p.m., at the Walker County Ag Center. This workshop will include both classroom presentations and demonstrations with farm equipment. Since pesticide safety will also be addressed at the workshop, farmers attending that have a private pesticide license will receive one hour of pesticide recertification credit. The program is free of charge and open to any local adults or youth interested in attending. Call the Walker County Extension Office at 638-2548 by March 1 to RSVP. This extension program is made possible through the support and sponsorship of the Walker County Farm Bureau.

COMMUNITY · A Bariatric Support Group will meet from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Erlanger Chattanooga Lifestyle Center. Bariatric Support Group meetings are for individuals scheduled to have Bariatric surgery or who have already had weight loss surgery. COMMUNITY · A Childbirth Education class will be held from 5:30-8:45 p.m. at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road, Chattanooga). This childbirth education class/series is designed for expectant parents and taught by experienced OB nurses. These classes include stages of labor, relaxation and labor support techniques, hospital procedures, pain management options, after birth and home care for moms and in-hospital care for newborns. COMMUNITY · The Walker County Sheriff’s Office will conduct the third Sheriff’s Citizen’s Academy beginning Monday, March 4, at the Sheriff Ralph H. Jones Training Center. Classes are held on Mondays from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for 10 weeks. There is no charge to attend. For the first time, students aged 13-17 can attend when accompanied by a parent or guardian. COMMUNITY · Parkridge East Hospital in East Ridge, Tenn., will offer a Labor of Love (Lamaze) Four Week Series ($50) – Mondays, Jan. 7-28, or March 4-25, from 6:30-9 p.m. This class will prepare first-time parents for everything they will need to know about having their baby. The class discussion will include nutrition, labor, delivery, and postpartum care for Mom. This class also includes comfort techniques to be used during labor. Lamaze breathing and relaxation exercises will be practiced every week at the end of class. This is the ideal class for parents who think they might want to go without an epidural, but may not be sure. A support person is highly recommended to be in attendance with the expectant mother. Bring two pillows to class. Breastfeeding class is free when taking this class. A tour of the hospital is included during class. COMMUNITY · A Breastfeeding class will be offered from 6:30-9 p.m. Tuesday, March 5, at Erlanger East (Gunbarrel Road, Chattanooga). This class is designed to help participants make an informed choice about breastfeeding. Learn breastfeeding basics, what to expect the first few weeks and special tips for success. Concerns about returning to work/school will also be discussed. This course is coordinated by a board-certified lactation consultant. Registration fee is $30. Area residents who are overweight and /or with health problems related to obesity are invited to learn more about the Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery Center at Erlanger. COMMUNITY · A Cholestech Lipid and Glucose Screening will be offered from 8-10 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, at Erlanger North (Morrison Springs Road) in Chattanooga. Lipid & Glucose Screening with results while you wait. A lipid panel will show HDL, LDL, Total cholesterol, non-HDL, cholesterol ratio and triglycerides. A 12-hour fast is required to produce an accurate result. No eating or drinking coffee prior to the test, but please drink water the night before and morning of testing.
