Fort Oglethorpe voters will have two separate ballots for the March 19 special elections.

With early voting that began Monday, Feb. 25, and stretching through March 15, voters within the city should plan on making two stops to cast their ballots: one stop at city hall to vote for a new council member and another stop at a county precinct to vote on the special-purpose local-option sales tax (SPLOST) referendum.

For early voting on the countywide SPLOST referendum, citizens must go to either the Westside voting precinct or Ringgold voting precinct (Catoosa Hall). The two precincts will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. On March 14 these precincts will have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m.

On March 19 (election day) there are five precincts in Fort Oglethorpe where the SPLOST referendum can be voted on: Lakeview, Westside, Boynton, Duncan Park and Constitution Hall. Depending on the county ward where citizens live, that is where they will cast their votes on SPLOST.

“Voting in the city election (for a new council member) will take place at city hall. To vote in the county for SPLOST, Fort Oglethorpe citizens will go to their regular county precinct,” said Fort Oglethorpe election superintendent Orma Luckey.

The same goes for absentee ballots. Citizens of Fort Oglethorpe will have to apply for two different ballots: one ballot from the city for the council seat election and one from the county for the SPLOST referendum. Absentee ballots will be taken up to election day.

The last day for early voting will take place on Friday, March 15. The election will take place Tuesday, March 19, and all voting stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
