The Georgia Public Service Commission will hold a public hearing to allow RTC (Ringgold Telephone Co.) customers to voice their opinion about a rate increase proposed by RTC’s competitors, according to a media release.

The hearing will be at the Catoosa County Courthouse on Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.

“Throughout our history, RTC has been committed to providing customers with the highest quality, most affordable telecommunications services available,” said Alice Evitt Bandy, president and owner of RTC. “Today, AT&T and CTAG are attempting to diminish RTC’s value as the premier provider of telecommunications services. We strongly oppose this anti-competitive attempt to raise our customers’ rates.”

AT&T has made allegations to the PSC, the regulatory body of public utilities, that RTC’s rates are too low. As a result, the PSC is holding a rate case to investigate the fees RTC charges their customers.

AT&T and cable television interests want the PSC to raise RTC’s customers’ rates by approximately 20 percent, and RTC is against this proposed rate increase.

According to the media release from RTC, these competitors are instigating this rate increase to make it more difficult for RTC to compete. Chickamauga Telephone Company is also being affected by these actions.

Dear RTC-

When you stop forcing me to pay for an obsolete landline that is only used to annoy me with sales and political robo-calls, I'll believe your side of this story and support you. But since you act like the big phone companies, I'll treat you like one.

I very much agree with your statement, Snarky. I have tried to eliminate my POTS for some time, but I am not allowed. So, I pay $2 a month for incoming, and $12 a month in government fees to have the phone line. That is just freaking ridiculous.

However, I do not support a price hike. On the contrary, the PSC should be investigating a PRICE REDUCTION. In comparing counties of similar population and geographic location to larger cities, I find that RTC charges HIGHER prices for Internet.
