Crowe Co. in Knoxville, Tenn.

He was a member of the Chattanooga Bicycle Club, the Chota Canoe Club, the Tennessee Valley Canoe Club, and the TSRA. His passions in life were his family, bicycling, paddling, and enjoying the outdoors and his cabin on Citico Creek where anything and everything could happen. He was an avid outdoorsman and an adventurer, and a reformed hunter and fisherman He said one time that he used to take pride in hunting but then he realized it was at the expense of the animals, so he quit and never did it again. He had a way of teaching those he was around that a man has to do what needs to be done. No one else is going to do it for you. He would also teach that life is long and one could lead many lives during that time, so enjoy your time on earth.

The next time you see Hugh rolling down the road on a summer evening, head bent over the handlebars, legs cranking, heart pounding, watch him very closely. At some point, he’ll start to blur a little bit as the light reflected from his body redshifts. He’s not on a bike anymore; he’s on a time machine. And as he is riding, he is going backwards in time. Don’t slow down, Hugh!

She lived the first few years of her life with her grandmother during World War II and at that time she developed her love of cats. She was a 1960 graduate of Granby High School in Norfolk, Va., and she attended Elon College in North Carolina. Several years after college one of her good friends encouraged her to move to Atlanta to find a husband.

This was a very special place along with her grandmother’s farm in Gordonsville, Va., called the Happy Creek Farms.

Dorothy Elaine Sims, 78, Rossville

Dorothy Elaine Sims died April 28, 2012 in the comfort of her home. She was 78.

The compassion and unconditional love that she had for her family and friends was her way of expressing God’s love to those she loved so much. She was an amazing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who so many called “Nana.” Mom was always looking for an opportunity to help someone, the reward she received in her heart from it was enough thanks for her. She found such a joy in sewing and it showed in everything she made, from country crafts to beautiful quilts. Mom was known for her fun spirit and energy that always kept her on the go. Our family tradition is playing a game called Wahoo which all started with mom’s love for the game as a young girl. She is loved by so many and will be missed more than this family can say.

She was born on August 21, 1933 in Rossville, to Joe and Kate McDaniel; graduated at Lakeview High School in 1951 and married Fred Sims Jr. in 1951. She was preceded in death by her son LeBron Sims and her sister Wilene Spires.
