Both honorees are members of the club and have given a combined 90 years of service to the community. Award criteria established by the club measures nominees’ professional accomplishments and civic involvement.
“The Kiwanis Club was chartered in 1954 and has been doing great work to improve the lives of children ever since,” club president Jeff Epperson said. “The Distinguished Service Award lets us publicly recognize and thank those who have given of their time and talents to make real change in our community.”
The honorees selected their charity of choice to receive the proceeds from a silent auction. Fant selected the Eliminate Project of Maternal and Neonatal Tetanus, a Kiwanis International initiative with UNICEF. White chose the Georgia Northwestern Technical College Foundation.
About 180 guests attended the award luncheon at the Colonnade in Ringgold. Previous honorees Judy O’Neal, Walker County commissioner Bebe Heiskell, Catoosa County sheriff Phil Summers and Walker County sheriff Steve Wilson were on hand to congratulate the honorees.
The Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School Junior ROTC posted the colors and April Lane sang the national anthem. Rev. Jason Thomas, pastor of First Baptist Church of Fort Oglethorpe, gave the invocation. Club chaplain Ross Andrews gave a closing devotion.
The Kiwanis Club of Fort Oglethorpe regularly meets at noon on Friday at Erlanger at Hutcheson’s dining facility.
