COMMUNITY · The criminal justice fraternity at Dalton State College will hold an awareness workshop on syn-thetic marijuana Monday, April 23, at 7:30 p.m. The workshop is free and open to the public and will feature a panel of speakers including Mr. and Mrs. David Burnett, parents of the late Chase Burnett, for whom the recently-passed Georgia legislation, “Chase’s Law” is named. The 16-year old Fayette County honor student drowned in the family’s Peachtree City hot tub after smoking “Spice,” a synthetic marijuana product he reportedly purchased at an area convenience store. Other panel members will include Dr. Richard Collison, assistant professor of chemistry at Dal-ton State; Dr. Ujwal Reddy, medical director of Highland Rivers Medical Clinic; Detective Chris Tucker of the FBI’s Conasauga Safe Streets Task Force; and school resource officer Michael Bowen of the Dalton Police Department. The workshop will be held in Room 130 of Dalton State’s Gignilliat Memorial Hall. Anyone with questions is wel-come to call 706-272-2985.

CHURCH · Elizabeth Terrace Baptist Church will hold spring revival services through April 25. Services on Sun-day will be held at 10:50 a.m. and 6 p.m. Weeknight services will be at 7 p.m. The evangelist for the meeting will be Dennis Petty of Cornell, Ga. Special music and a nursery will be provided nightly. Everyone is welcome. The church is at 600 Mohawk Street in Rossville. George Pinion is pastor.

CHURCH · Shiloh Baptist Church in West Armuchee will hold a spring revival through Wednesday, April 25, at 6:30 each evening. Danny Cochran is the speaker and Chris McDaniel will lead worship and special music. The church is at 46 Manning Mill Road just off West Armuchee Road.

COMMUNITY · A.B.A.T.E. (American Bikers Active Toward Education) of Georgia District 1 West meets at 6:30 p.m. the fourth Monday of the month at the Dairy Dip in LaFayette. The next meeting is April 23. 6th Cavalry Mu-seum executive director Chris McKeever is scheduled to speak about the club’s participation in the April 28 poker run to benefit the veterans’ memorial garden. COMMUNITY · The LaFayette-Walker County Public Library will have their Preschool Ready to READ class on Mondays, April 23 and 30 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.

ENTERTAINMENT · Auditions for “Honk!” a musical story of “The Ugly Duckling,” will be held April 23 and 24 at The Colonnade from 6 to 9 p.m. Those wishing to audition need to appear in person and be prepared to sing 30-60 seconds of a song of their choosing. No accompaniment is provided, but the one auditioning may bring a CD track of their song. Auditioners will be seen in the order they arrive. Actors and actresses of all ages are welcome.

COMMUNITY · The Walker County Chamber of Commerce and the Northwest Georgia Joint Development Au-thority will celebrate Walker County manufacturers at the Walker County Chamber of Commerce’s April member-ship luncheon Tuesday, April 24, at the Walker County Civic Center. The cost to attend the event is $15 per person for chamber members and $25 per person for non-chamber members; registration will include a meal. COMMUNITY · The Brown Bag Book Club will meet Tuesday, April 24, from 12 –1:30 p.m. at the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library. This month’s featured book is “The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks” by Rebecca Skloot. Anyone with a love of reading should come to this event. The book for the month of May will be “The Paris Wife” by Paula McLain.

CHURCH · Cove Road Church of God will hold a spring revival April 25-27 at 7 p.m. nightly. The speaker is Rev. Harry Reeves of Mt. Bethel Missionary Church in Menlo. Cove Road Church of God is at 620 N. Chattanooga Street in LaFayette. James Brown Sr. is pastor.
