COMMUNITY · There will be a special one-hour program at Chickamauga Battlefield Saturday, April 14, at 2 p.m., to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic. Join a park ranger to learn and discuss an important connection between the Battle of Chickamauga and the sinking of the Titanic. Although the two historical events are separated by almost 49 years, the Battle of Chickamauga was discussed aboard the Ti-tanic’s maiden voyage. Please dress appropriately for the weather. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs. The program begins at the Chickamauga Battlefield Visitor Center parking lot and then will car caravan onto the battlefield. CHURCH · Boynton United Methodist Church will hold a Blessing of the Animals Saturday, April 14, at 10 a.m. Bring your cats, dogs, birds, cows and other animals to be blessed. All animals must be caged or leashed. We bring animals for blessing as a way of reminding ourselves of the beauty of God’s creation and our role in ensuring its care and proper use. CHURCH · Corinth Baptist Church will hold ladies’ day Saturday, April 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Speaker Tina Craighead from Gordonsville, Tenn., will be bringing a lesson on the theme “It’s About Time.” Terri Gibbs, Chris-tian artist, will perform. EDUCATION · The regular monthly meetings of the Walker County Board of Education will be held on the third Monday of each month, with the exception of the January, February, November and December meetings in 2012. Meetings will be held at 6 p.m. at the Walker County Department of Education Building, 201 South Duke Street, LaFayette. 2012 meetings are April 16, May 14, June 18, July 16, Aug. 20, Sept. 17, Oct. 15, Nov. 12 and Dec. 10.
