Mr. and Mrs. Ancel Cross of Ripley, Miss., announce the engagement of their daughter Caitlin Anne Conner to Robert Jay Smedema II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Williams of Ringgold, and the late Robert Jay Smedema.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gaddis of Ripley, and Mrs. Quay Hurt Cross and the late Mr. Ancel “Cub” Cross of Falkner, Miss.

Cross is a graduate of Ripley High School and Northeast Mississippi Community College, where she was a member of Phi Theta Kappa. She received a bachelor of science degree in kinesiology from Mississippi State University, where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority, the Panhellenic Executive Council, the Order of Omega, Mortar Board, Golden Key, and Kappa Kappa Iota. She also served as an orientation leader and was a Student Government Association senator.

She received a master’s of occupational therapy from Tennessee State University and is employed as an occupational therapist with Signature Health Care at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

The prospective groom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Craig of Lafayette, Mr. Jim Smedema of Biloxi, Miss., and the late Hilda Brown Smedema.

Smedema is a graduate of Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe High School. He received a bachelor of science degree in economics and Spanish from Mercer University and spent a year studying abroad. At Mercer he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity and served as rush chairman and new member educator. He is employed by Michelin North America and was the North American Salesman of the Year in 2011. Currently he serves as the Western Zone Key Account Manager in Denver, Colo.

The couple will exchange vows at 4 p.m. on March 24, 2012, at the Pink Palace Museum in Memphis. A reception will follow.
