Fort Oglethorpe police arrested an Atlanta man Monday afternoon, Sept. 5, after he crashed his car into a residential fence while allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

According to Fort Oglethorpe police reports:

Bradley Douglas Merrell, 36, of 3147 Mission Ridge Lane was arrested for DUI and driving too fast for conditions.

When officers arrived at the scene they found his Infiniti G35 sitting through a section of a residential chain-link fence at 118 Herron St.

Merrell lost control of the car at the intersection of Cloud Springs Road and Cross Street.

“I detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage omitting from his breath,” officer Ray Bowman wrote in the report. “I asked the offender if he had been drinking, and he stated that he’d had shots and a couple of beers a short time earlier.”

Although Merrell reported no injury from the crash, a supplemental accident report was filed that included photos of the damaged fence.

A field sobriety test was not administered at the time of incident due to the heavy downpour of rain. However a Breathalyzer was given, and Merrell was arrested and transported to the Catoosa County jail.
