Fort Oglethorpe police are investigating an armed robbery attempt that took place last week near city hall, in which two men pulled a gun on a teenage couple and demanded money from them.

According to Fort Oglethorpe police reports:

The 17-year-old victim stated that shortly after 10 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 9, she was walking with her 18-year-old boyfriend along the walking trail from Gilbert-Stephenson Park to Fort Oglethorpe City Hall, when two white males jumped out from behind a bush.

She told police one of the males asked them to stop, then pulled out a black handgun and demanded money from her boyfriend. She said the second male asked her if she had any money, to which she responded “no.”

The victim said she recognized the gunman from school, and even addressed him by name, but that he denied being the person she recognized.

The two men fled.

During investigation of the scene, a white hat was found lying on Howard Street, which met part of the clothing description given by both victims.

The hat was collected as evidence, along with statements by the victims, and the case was turned over to detective Johnny Lanham.

Anyone with information regarding the suspects or the incident is encouraged to contact the Fort Oglethorpe Po-lice Department at 706-866-2512.
