Thomas Edward Tallent, 70, Chattanooga, Tenn.
Thomas Edward Tallent of Chattanooga, Tenn. died Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011. He was 70.
He was owner of Tallent Construction Company for 31 years, embraced the open hands of the almighty, wrapped himself in unconditional love and ascended peacefully from this world.
Born Nov. 5, 1940, in Monroe County, Tenn., he was one of 13 children. He lived the last 52 years in Chattanooga and was a member of the Joyful Sound Church of God and a student of the teachings of the word of God. A man of integrity, discipline, compassion and hard work, he never met a stranger and had a smile that embodied the quiet strength that made everyone feel welcome and safe in his presence. Mr. Tallent was a quintessential soldier of salvation and was always willing to impart the wisdom of his years, his experiences, and of the Lord.
He was admired for his work ethic and proud of the life he lived, his children, and business they built. He taught those closest to him what it meant to be a man of his word and to live according to their principles and values. Mr. Tallent’s greatest joys in life were his 28 years of marriage to his wife, best friend, confidante and teacher Nancy and his children, Tim, Chris, Jeff, Shana, Tiffany, T.J., and Matt, and his several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also relished several brothers, sisters, his church family and friends.
The patriarch of a family built on love, he enjoyed nothing more than companionship, fellowship and the breaking of bread. Though he was a man of few words, these simple acts filled his heart and when he embraced his creator, he did so with a pure heart, a pure mind, and the comfort that he had touched so many lives. He was loved unconditionally by all who knew him and gave in return.
Although God’s work for him here is done, he will remain the foundation upon which his family’s burdens, problems and accomplishments lie. He is the rock that we will always be able to anchor to and need only look to the heavens for his direction and wisdom. We are comforted to know that he is sitting at the table of the Lord and take solace in the fact that he is watching over us as he always has.
Although we will miss his laughter and conversation, he would not want his family and friends to mourn his passing, but to rejoice in the life he lived. Those of us who love him know he is in a place where there is no suffering and no pain and that he has been reunited with loved ones. A fulfillment of a life’s work has been bestowed upon him and he drinks from an unending chalice of love.
