Fort Oglethorpe police arrested a Ringgold man Wednesday night, June 29, at a fast-food restaurant on a DUI charge, which garnered an additional charge after he attempted to run from police.

According to Fort Oglethorpe police reports:

Christopher Paul Swafford, 25, of 9355 Ga. 41 in Ringgold was arrested at the Krystal on LaFayette Road in Fort Oglethorpe on charges of DUI and driving with a suspended license.

“When I arrived at the incident location, I made contact with the offender who was unsteady on his feet and had slurred speech,” officer Jeff Holcomb said in the report.

After failing three field sobriety tests, Swafford was arrested and taken to Hutcheson Medical Center for a blood test.

“As we were leaving the hospital, the cuffed offender ran from me,” Holcomb said. “I caught him at Hutcheson Medical Center’s home health building’s parking lot.

Swafford was taken to Catoosa County jail, with an additional charge of disorderly conduct by obstruction.
