The Heritage High School Wind Ensemble will premiere a piece of music written by senior band member Brandon McDonald Thursday, April 28.

His piece “Going Away” is one of several tunes he has written.

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. Admission is free, but it is requested that canned items be brought for the Christ Chapel food bank.

This will be the first time band director Blair Callaway has had a band perform a piece of music written by one of his students.

McDonald is a saxophone player in the band and has participated in the Wind Ensemble, Pep Band and Jazz Band.

He was the drum major of the Legion of Generals for three years. McDonald has been a member of the GMEA District 7 Honor Band and Jazz Honor Band.

McDonald will attend Jacksonville State University next fall and study music education and composition. He will be marching with the famous JSU Marching Southerners.

The Spring Concert by the Heritage Bands will feature the Wind Ensemble and the Symphonic Band.
