A Rome woman remained in jail late Monday night after police charged her with lying about a man she said raped her.

According to Rome Police Department and Floyd County Jail records: Wingree Castel, 29, of 24 Fortune St., was charged with false swearing in a written statement, a felony, and misdemeanor false report of a crime.

Castel originally told police she had been raped by an on-again-off-again boyfriend, and wrote two statements to this effect. Police later discovered evidence they felt indicated she was lying on the reports.

Castel was arrested Monday morning.
