While fighting off cold and flu symptoms, Rossville teen Lauren Alaina once again graced Fox’s “American Idol” stage Wednesday night as the show’s remaining 12 contestants performed hit songs from the year in which they were born.

The 16 year-old Alaina, who was born in 1994, stepped slightly away from her usual country genre of music and treated the world to her version of rocker Melissa Etheridge’s “I’m the Only One.”

Following her performance, she was greeted with praise by all three judges and even called a “shining star” by judge Steven Tyler.

While not having to deal with the pressure of being the first performer onstage this week, and with a little rasp in her voice, Alaina gave a better performance than last week.

The community and the rest of the world will be able to find out tonight whether Alaina’s performance was good enough to keep her in the competition for another week. The live results show will air on Fox at 8 p.m.
