COMMUNITY · A Harvest Jubilee to benefit the foster children of Walker County will be held from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Walker County Ag Center off Highway 27. Featured performers are Chris McDaniel, Vince Stalling, Steve & The Next of Kin, and The Cowboy Church Dancers. COMMUNITY · Ika, the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library’s Reading Dog, is looking for children to come read to her. The Paws to Read program will be from noon-1:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. Readers of all ages and levels are welcome.

COMMUNITY · Friends of the LaFayette-Walker County Public Library will hold a book sale to raise funds for library programs Saturday, Nov. 17, during regular library hours.

ENTERTAINMENT · Dalton State College will present the original play “Muscadine Wine” in Goodroe Auditorium at Gignilliat Memorial Hall at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17. The play is free to Dalton State students, faculty and staff; others pay $5.

COMMUNITY · The Cherokee Regional Library System's 2012 Food for Fines Campaign will continue until the end of the business day on Friday, Nov. 30. Library patrons may “pay” library overdue fines with a canned food item. This will help re-stock food banks in Dade and Walker County. One food can donation removes up to $1 in overdue fines. CHURCH · Four Fold will perform at 7 p.m Saturday, Nov. 17, at Waterville Baptist Church, off Highway 151 in Trion/LaFayette. The concert is open to the community.

COMMUNITY · Chattanooga Zoo will hold a Snow Leopard Appreciation Day on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. On this day, six-week old boy and girl cubs, recently named Everest and Maliha respectively by Zoo supporters, will be making their public debut. Snow Leopards are considered a highly endangered species with only 4,000-6,000 remaining in the wild. The Chattanooga Zoo hopes to use this occasion to bring awareness and education to snow leopard conservation efforts both locally and abroad. During Snow Leopard Appreciation Day, visitors will be encouraged to participate in interactive education stations highlighting conservation efforts while watching the cubs frolic in actual snow generously donated by the Tennessee Valley Ice Company. Snow Leopard Day activities are free with Zoo admission.

COMMUNITY · The Dalton Freight Depot is hosting an exhibit on 20 years of the “Nutcracker Ballet in Dalton”on loan from the Dalton Arts Project through Jan. 7, 2013, at the historic 1911 depot. COMMUNITY · Cloudland Canyon offers hay rides every Saturday now through Nov. 24. Hot dogs, S'mores, snacks and drinks will be sold. Leashed and licensed pets may also ride. Meet at the Interpretive Center. Rides start on the hour from 2-6 p.m. Park entrance is $5. Hay rides cost $5 for adults, $3 for children ages 4 to 12. The park is off High-way 136 near Trenton.

COMMUNITY · The first annual "Trot to Stop" domestic violence will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Camp Jordan Arena in East Ridge, Tenn. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the 5K walk (trot) begins at 9 a.m. Registration fee is $15. The first 50 people to register will receive a free T-shirt. Others may buy a T-shirt for $10. Proceeds go to the Safe Harbor Agency, to establish a new area shelter for battered and abused women and children. CHURCH · The Bryan College Chamber Singers will present a concert of sacred choral music Sunday, Nov. 18, at 6 p.m. at LaFayette Presbyterian Church, 107 N. Main Street, in La Fayette. The program will consist of a variety of literature, including classical, spirituals, and gospel selections. The public is invited, and there will be a reception following the concert. The concert is provided free to the community as an outreach activity of the congregation.

COMMUNITY · AARP Tax-Aide, a free, volunteer-run tax preparation and assistance service, is seeking volunteers in Walker County to help taxpayers who are seeking assistance preparing and filing their 2012 tax returns. Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or a retiree to participate. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers should have some computer experience, such as e-mail and internet browsing. Also needed are volunteers who have management experience. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free IRS-certified tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. Monday, Nov. 19

COMMUNITY · A benefit for FEED MY LAMBS MINISTRIES will be held from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at the Bank of LaFayette Community Room. (Proceeds will go toward establishing a community soup kitchen.) There will be a bounce house, face painting, football throw contest, jump rope contest, crazy hair, nail painting and other games and a meal all offered at a cost of $10 per child. GOVERNMENT · The LaFayette City Council will hold a special called meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 19, at LaFayette City Hall, 207 South Duke Street. Agenda items include employee compensation and financing of the water treatment project.
