Floy Ree Kirk Tomlin, 97, LaFayette

Floy Ree Kirk Tomlin of LaFayette went to be with the Lord on Christmas morning, December 25, 2012. She was 97.

She was a member of Ridgeview Baptist Church. She was a beloved sister and aunt. She was a special mother to all that new her. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Tomlin; parents John and Stella Kirk; brothers, Junior, Shannon, and Sam Kirk; sister Lois Conley, Gwen Hammontree, and special daughter, Bobby Mason.

Survivors include her sister, Jean Crowe; special granddaughter, April Tucker, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service: Friday, Dec. 28, at noon. Service conducted by Revs. George Palmer, and Mark Smith. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 27, from 6-8 p.m.

Judith Ann Johnson Casteen, 70, Ringgold

Judith Ann Johnson Casteen of Ringgold died Tuesday, December 25, 2012. She was 70.

A resident of the Ringgold area for the past seven years, she was previously of Bakersfield, Calif., and of the Lutheran faith. She taught quilting at the Lavender Line Quilt Store in East Ridge, Tenn., for four years and was a former teacher for 38 years at Kern High School District in Bakersfield, Calif. An avid quilter, she was a member of the Ringgold UMC Quilters, Moon over the Mountain, Pioneer Quilt Guild and the Crazy Quilters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John Paul and Viva Leona Adamson Johnson.

Survivors include her husband of 44 years, Russ Casteen, Jr., of Ringgold; sister, Linda Munsford of Bakersfield, Calif.; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Daniel R. and Mary Lou Casteen of Ringgold; and nephew, Kevin Johnson of Bakers-field, Calif.

Visitation: Saturday, Dec. 29, from 1-5 p.m. at the funeral home.

Charles Millard Black, 65, Dalton

Charles Millard Black of Dalton died Thursday, December 20, 2012. He was 65.

A lifelong resident of the north Georgia area, he was a member of Salem Baptist Church in Dalton and a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served during the Vietnam War. He was in law enforcement for 40 years. He began his career with the Chattanooga Police Department, and later went to the Ringgold Police Department. He then worked for the Dalton Police Department for 11 years and lastly ended his career with the Whitfield County Sheriff Department where he worked for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his father, Millard Black.

Survivors include his mother, Emma Silvey Brown of Rossville; daughter, Jeaney Bonds (James) of Ringgold; three stepdaughters, Tina Nealey of Tunnel Hill, Cindy Johnson (Jeff) of Rocky Face and Desma Bowers (Tom) of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and several cousins.

Funeral service: Monday, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Bill Walker, Sheriff Scott Chitwood and Larry Black officiating. Burial: Chattanooga National Cemetery. Visitation: Sunday, Dec. 23, from 1-9 p.m. and Monday until funeral time at the funeral home.

Martha L. Waller, 86, Rossville

Martha L. Waller of Rossville died Thursday, December 20, 2012, in a local healthcare facility. She was 86.

She was a retired bookkeeper with the Tennessee Department of Children and Family Services in Hamilton County and was of the Baptist faith. She was devoted mother, grandmother and sister.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lewis Waller; grandson, Matthew Wiley; parents, Wiley and Amanda Lamberth; and brother, J. L. Lamberth.

Survivors include her sons, Joe (Eva) Waller and Bob Waller; daughter, Martha (Michael) Black; sister, Ruth (Jack) Williamson; sister-in-law, Evelyn Lamberth; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Walter Hahn, 80, Ringgold

Walter “Wally” Hahn of Ringgold died Friday, December 21, 2012. He was 80.

He was a native of Chicago, Ill., but lived most of his life in Racine, Wis. He had lived in Doyle, Tenn., for 20 years until moving to Ringgold for the last five years. He retired from the Racine Police Department in 1988 with over 25 years of service. He was an avid golfer and his passion in life was his family.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bobby Hahn; mother, Ruth Hahn; father, George Hahn; stepmother, Alice Hahn; sister, Marilyn Carlson; and brother, George Hahn.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Hahn of Ringgold; children, Sheryl (James) Bertermann, Stephen (Seline) Hahn and Kurt Hahn, all of Racine, Wis.; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Sam Johnston, 94, Chattanooga

Sam “Poppy” Johnston of Chattanooga died Sunday, December 23, 2012. He was 94.

He was retired from Dixie Yarn and attended Mountain View Baptist Church. He enjoyed whittling, spending time with his family and he loved children.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola Smith Johns-ton; son, Randall Johnston; great-grandchild, Charles Cook; parents, Robert and Addie Johnston; and several brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three children, Linda Ingle, Jimmy (Donna) Johnston and Pat (Steve) Hickman; two sisters, Betty Johnston Pace and Chris Hall; 12 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren, one great-great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.

Patsy A. Eubanks, 75, Rossville

Patsy A. Eubanks of Rossville died Tuesday, December 25, 2012, at her residence. She was 75.

She was a native of Chattanooga Valley and had lived most of her life in Rossville. She was employed as an L.P.N. for Hutcheson Medical Center and NHC of Rossville. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed shopping for antiques.

Her husband of 53 years, Bud Eubanks, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, David and Tammie Eubanks, Tami and Gerald Wilson and Tim Eubanks; grandchildren, Matt, Josh, and Zach Eubanks, Magin Wilson, Hadlea and Jamie Eubanks; brother, Grady Roberts; sister, Peggy Young; and several nieces and nephews.

Gaither Lee Pope Craig of LaFayette died Monday, December 24, 2012. She was 80.

She was a member of the LaFayette Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Craig; son, Arnold Craig; and parents, Jim and Pinkie Pope.

Survivors include her daughter, Kathy and husband, Terrill Pettyjohn of LaFayette; and grandson, Brian Pettyjohn, of LaFayette; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Shelia Kay Poindexter, 58, Fort Oglethorpe

Shelia Kay Poindexter of Fort Oglethorpe died on Sunday, December 23, 2012. She was 58.

She was the daughter of the late Freddie E. Campbell and Sarah Ramsey Campbell. Shelia never met a stranger and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.

Survivors include her husband of 41 years, Bill Poindexter; children, Christy (Kevin) Wallin of Fort Oglethorpe, William (Mindy) Poindexter of Chickamauga, and Nick (Ashley) Poindexter of Ringgold; five grandchildren, Justin Wallin, Haley Wallin, Jake Poindexter, Jaxon Poindexter and Eli Poindexter; brother, Freddie Lamar Campbell of East Ridge, Tenn.; sisters, Patsy (Preston) Terry of Ringgold, Glenda Collins of Flintstone, and Fredda (Kenneth) Guest of Rossville; and several nieces and nephews.

Woodrow Eugene Bailey, 72, LaFayette

Woodrow Eugene “Gene” Bailey of LaFayette passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 13, 2012, at NHC of Rossville. He was 72.

He was a lifelong resident of LaFayette. He was born to the late Woodrow Wilson Bailey and Faye Raines Bailey on December 29, 1939.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Roger and Garry Bailey.

Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Gwyn Groce and husband Edward of Ringgold; son, Woodrow E. Bailey, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; sister, Nancy Dean Harrison of Chickamauga; grandchildren, Abigail Bailey, Duke and Tristan Edward Groce.

Dorothy Nash, 79, Fort Oglethorpe

Dorothy Nash of Fort Oglethorpe died Thursday, December 20, 2012, in a local health care facility. She was 79.

She had lived most of her life in the north Georgia area. She loved dancing, playing cards, and spending time with her family. She had a keen sense of humor and valiantly fought numerous health battles with fortified determination and faith.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Luther and Alifair Hooper Hullender Sr.; husband, Andrew Nash; brothers, Carl Hullender, Raymond Hullender, and Burl Hullender; sister, Audrey Davis.

Survivors include her son, Michael Spivey of Harrison, Tenn.; daughters, Brenda (Taryl) Gernhardt of Madison, Ala., Wanda Spivey Cramer of Fort Oglethorpe; brothers, Fred Hullender of Ringgold, Luther (Thelma) Thelma Hullender Jr.; sister, Aline Hullender of Fort Oglethorpe; grandchildren, Tara Gernhardt and Blayne Spivey; and several nieces and nephews.

Lois Gray Akers Oglesby of Ringgold died Sunday, December 16, 2012. She was 90.

A resident of the Catoosa County area for the past 60 years, she was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Oscar Oglesby Sr.; son, Ross Oglesby; sister, Avis Akers and brothers, Emmons, Riley, Oza, Ires, Shelby and Carl Akers.

Survivors include her two sons and daughter-in-law, Marty and Robin Lee Oglesby of Ringgold and Oscar Oglesby Jr. of Cloudland; two sisters, Veola Robertson of Mt. Julet, Tenn., and Joyce Warren of Bethany, Okla.; sister-in-law, Helen Akers of Ringgold; granddaughter, Mary Oglesby of Illinois; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Evelyn Marie Nichols Hughes, 86, Ringgold

Evelyn Marie Nichols Hughes of Ringgold died Monday, December 17, 2012, at her residence. She was 86.

A lifelong resident of the Catoosa County area, she was a member of Bible Baptist Church and a former employee of Great American Fund Raising where she worked for six years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Warren D. Hughes; parents, Arthur and Bessie Maney Nichols; and three sisters, Mildred McGill, Mavis Hooper and Clarice Hawthorne.

Survivors include her two sons, Billy Hughes and Jackie Hughes, both of Ringgold; two sisters, Cecilie Cartwright of Birchwood, Tenn., and Joyce Kinsey of Talkingrock; two brothers, Marvin Nichols of Scottsville, Ky., and Ross Nichols of Woodstation; four grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside service: Tuesday, Dec. 18, at 11 a.m. at Woodstation Cemetery with Rev. Paul Allen officiating. Visitation: Tuesday, Dec. 18, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Vernon D. Cooper, 75, Rossville

Vernon D. Cooper of Rossville died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at a local hospital. He was 75.

He and his family transferred to Savannah and Tampa, Fla., but lived most of their lives in the Chattanooga and Rossville area. He served in the National Guard for four years and at one point built a custom car engine that was featured in Motor Trend Magazine. In the late 1980’s he started a contracting business with his best friend, William Lowes of Ringgold, only recently retiring.

He was preceded in death by his former wife, Betty; mother, Grace Powell Holbrook; father, William Clayton Cooper; and many older brothers and sisters.

Survivors include his son, Clayton Harold Cooper; son-in-law, Donald Hackett; brother, Leonard Paul Holbrooks and his family, and in-laws including the Dunn Family, the Brodie Family and the Prater Family.

Memorial services will be held privately at a later date. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 20, from 4-8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Harvey Gene Cagle, Rossville

Harvey Gene Cagle died Tuesday, December 18, 2012, at NHC Nursing Home in Rossville. He had fought a long hard battle from Parkinson’s. He was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

During his long lifespan, he worked at TVA and other places, before leaving to serve his country for four years in World War II. He was a member of the Rossville Lions Club for over 50 years. On Memorial Day 2012, he was made an honorary member of the VFW and was presented a certificate for his service. On his return from service he graduated from Georgia Tech, moved back to Chattanooga to be with his aging parents, and later worked at Citizens Savings and Loan for many years, before retiring in 1989. He served on the board for Community Kitchen and other boards. He was very active in his church that he loved so much. He was a member of Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harvey Cagle and mother, Ludye Cagle.

Survivors include several cousins among who are Bill (Sibbie) Johnson of Manchester, Tenn., Steve (Debbie) Gunther of Chickamauga and Jerry (Maryanne) McCurdy of Marietta; and longtime friend, Mabel Simmons.

Funeral services: will be held Friday, Dec. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church 722 Glenwood Drive Chattanooga, Tenn. 37404, with Father Stavros Ballas officiating. Burial: Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 20, from 5-7:30p.m. and at 7:30 p.m. there will be a Trisagion Service at the funeral home.

Teresa Anne McBroom Merritt, 57, Rossville

Teresa Anne McBroom Merritt of Rossville died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at her residence. She was 57.

She was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and Rossville area. She was known for her generosity and enormous heart, and she took care of many of the neighborhood children becoming known as “Miss Anne.” She also had a love for animals and took care of many strays over the years. Her passions in life were her family, her grandchildren who referred to her as Mimi, her friends, and taking care of others.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ed “Big Ed” McBroom; and grandmother, Geneva Keller.

Survivors include her husband of more than 33 years, Dennis Merritt; two daughters, Brandi (Eric) Coleman of Ringgold and Rachel Lewis of Chattanooga; mother, Wanda McBroom of Ringgold; two grandchildren, Hailey Merritt and Olivia Coleman, both of Ringgold; two brothers, Charles Edward McBroom, II of Ooltewah and Monty McBroom of Ringgold; sister, Pam Blackwell of Chattanooga; and several nieces and nephews.

Linda Diane Cameron, 63, Chattanooga

Linda Diane Cameron of Chattanooga died Wednesday, December 19, 2012. She was 63.

She had lived in the Chattanooga area for most of her life and was a member of Gateway Baptist Church. She was a loving and devoted sister, who will be greatly missed by all that new her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George L. and Mary A. Cameron and brother, Eddie Cameron.

Survivors include her son, Terry A. Cameron; brother, Harry Clay Cameron; two sisters, Elaine Payne of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Georgiana Morgan of Graysville; two grandsons, Blake and Gabe Cameron; special friend, Roxanne McNely and honorary Pallbearer, Gary Harris.

James B. Grant, 87, Bossier City, La.

James B. Grant, formerly of Ringgold, died December 9, 2012, after a long illness. He was 87.

He was born in Chattanooga, Tenn., on December 13, 1924, and was a Ringgold High School graduate. He joined the Navy during WWII and served on a submarine tender in the South Pacific. After the war, he joined the United States Air force and served for 20 years. After retiring, he worked for Boeing Aircraft, Frymaster and finally in the Maintenance department of Bossier Medical Center until he retired in 1987. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and was a member of the Silver Eagles work crew. He was a life member of VFW Post 4588 and a charter member of the 12th District Honor Guard. He enjoyed working with wood and making a garden each spring. His family was his whole life. He said many times that he was blessed with so much love.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Maude Grant; baby brother Richard, and brother, Frederick; sister, Madeline; daughters, Charlotte and Freida; granddaughter, Rachel and great-great-granddaughter, Sofia.

Survivors include his loving wife of almost 63 years, Ventrice Grant; brother; R.C. Grant; daughter, Brenda Henderson and husband Doug; son, Walter Grant and wife Kristi; daughter, Cherie Salvucci and husband Greg; grand-children, Ben and Jason Henderson, Jeff Estess, Austin and Staci Grant, Amber and James Salvucci, 10 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service: Friday, Dec. 14, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel, officiated by Caleb Brown. Visitation: Thursday, Dec. 13, from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Honoring Mr. Grant as pallbearers will be his grandsons, Jason Henderson, Jeff Estess, Austin Grant and James Salvucci; he will also be honored by Adam Brown and Caleb Gullion. Honorary pallbearers will be the 12th District Honor Guard.

Lamar Corbin of Rock Spring died Tuesday, December 18, 2012. He was 57.

Lester Lee Ramey, 89, Rock Spring

Lester " Bud" Lee Ramey of Rock Spring died Monday, December 17, 2012. He was 89.

He was preceded in death by parents Claude and Beulah Ramey; daughter, Tammy Ramey; grandchild, Sandy Keith; and brothers and sisters.

James A. Russell of LaFayette died Friday, December 14, 2012. He was 86.

He was a member of the Way of The Cross Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by wife, Roberta Banks Russell; parents, Jesse and Ocie Curtis Russell; five sisters, and two brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Joyce Ann Cochran Russell; daughters, Brenda and husband Henry Parks of Dalton, Billie England Hartline of LaFayette; sons, Rev. Tom and wife Mary Russell of Summerville, and John Russell of LaFayette; sister, Linda Honeycutt of McMinnville, Tenn.; 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

Clara Lucille Lusk Harris of Lakeview died peacefully at her residence surrounded by family Tuesday, December 18, 2012. She was 91.

She was a lifelong resident of Lakeview. She was a member of Lakeview First Baptist Church for over 60 years and was a member of the TEL Sunday School Class and the Sunshiners. She was a member of Senior and Friends of Fort Oglethorpe and Rossville. She served on the board for Catoosa County Family and Childrens Services.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mable Lusk; husband, George William Harris; and brothers, Howard and John T. Lusk.

Survivors include her son, Donnie (Terri) Harris of Rossville; daughters, Lois Ann (Gary) Alverson of Ringgold, Pam (James V.) Snyder of Signal Mountain, and Veneti (Michael) Stephenson of Ringgold; grandchildren, Mike Stephenson, Hayden Harris, Brandon Palmer, Angela Cathey, Amy Owens, Mandy McKnight, Jennifer Carver, Emily Snyder, and Lauren Snyder; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild.

Fred B. Brewer, Jr., Fort Oglethorpe

Fred B. Brewer Jr., of Fort Oglethorpe died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, in a local hospital.

He was a longtime resident of Fort Oglethorpe and was retired from W. R. Grace Company as the warehouse supervisor. He served honorably in the U.S. Army for three years during the Korean Conflict and Occupation of Germany, receiving the Defense Medals and the occupation of Germany medals among others. He attended Chattanooga schools, graduated from Kirkman Tech., and attended Chattanooga State after the war. He was a longtime member of Westside Baptist Church where he was a member of the Auditorium and Carl Edmondson Sunday School Class. He held many positions with the church. He was a disabled veteran and a life member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of the American Legion and worked for DAV at the V.A. Center in Chattanooga after he retired. He built golf clubs for Arnold Palmer personally for 13 years and was his general foreman for the Arnold Palmer Company. He was married to the love of his life that he knew since Junior High School, Nellie Joyce Childress Brewer for 56 years.

Survivors include his wife, Nellie Joyce Childress Brewer; children, Tina Joyce (Gary) Jennings, Molly Malinda (Robert) Treacy and Michael Glen (Sally) Brewer; grandchildren, Tara (Brian) Benvie, Amanda Jennings, and Hayden Brewer; step-grandson, Jason (Sherry) Jennings; great-granddaughter, Ryleigh Benvie; step-great-granddaughter, Annsley.

Jessy James “J.J.” Johnson of Ringgold died Wednesday, December 19, 2012, at his residence. He was 79.

He was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia areas. He had been a member of New Liberty Baptist Church for the past 57 years and served as an Usher for many years. He retired from Roadway after several years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents, R. C. and Mary Johnson; wife, Margie Johnson; daughter, Cathy John-son; and dear friend, Eula Kaylor.

Joyce Marie Floyd of Fort Oglethorpe died Friday, December 7, 2012 at her residence. She was 60.

She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother and a friend to anyone she met. She was employed in the housekeeping department at Holiday Inn-East Ridge for a number of years. She was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her parents, William and Josephine Frost, three brothers, and one sister.

Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Joseph Floyd; children, Joseph (Jennifer) Floyd, Jr. of Trenton, Lisa Maria (Jimmy) Jackson of Ringgold and Christopher Floyd of Calhoun; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brothers, James, Tommy, Raymond, and Donald Frost; sisters, Linda Weathers and Katherine Haynes; several nieces and nephews.

Jack C. Huckabee, 90, Chattanooga

Jack C. Huckabee of Chattanooga died Saturday, December 15, 2012. He was 90.

His last months were spent at Creekside on Shallowford where he made many friends. He grew up in Apison and joined the U.S. Army at age 19 and served in World War II. He has a video of his war experiences in the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. and was the recipient of five Bronze Stars for being in five major battles. Following his retirement as an engineer with T.V.A., he and his wife, Hazel, were T.V.A. volunteers with Bicentennial Volunteer Incorporated and had more than 8,000 hours invested. They won many awards and met many interesting people. He was a member of Morris Hill Baptist Church and enjoyed the singing, preaching, handshakes and especially the hugs.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Hazel in May, 2012; brothers, Edward and Phil Huckabee; sisters, Margaret Land and Bertha Harbuck; and grandson, Jamie Alan Suits.

Survivors include his children, Jack Stanley Huckabee, Barbara (Charles) Fryar, Shelia (Kenny) Davis, Deborah (Steve) Blackburn; step-daughter, Gwen Caldwell; step-granddaughter, Laura (Neal) Hamilton; sister, Freida (Leon) Bagby; and loved as a daughter, Glenda Jenkins; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Helen Richard Tucker of Summerville died Sunday, December 16, 2012, at her residence. She was 69.

She was born on December 6, 1944, in Tallahassee, Fla., the daughter of the late Thomas Matthew Whiteside and Gladys Estelle Cecil Whiteside. She was a retired CAN with Hutcheson Hospice, a member of the Trion Heights Baptist Church, loving mother and caregiver, who was strong in a never failing faith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Jerome Tucker.

Bettye Jean Axmacher Alexander of Fort Oglethorpe died Thursday, December 13, 2012. She was 87.

She was a lifelong resident of Fort Oglethorpe and was a member of Dry Valley Baptist Church in Rossville. She helped her husband, Bill Alexander as owner/operator of Hemlock Pharmacy on Main Street in Chattanooga, for many years and was a lifelong member of VFW Post #3679 Ladies Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Alexander; parents, Earl Ace and Mildred Marie Gray Axmacher; children, William “Billy” Alexander, James “Jim” Alexander and David Alexander; and brother, Earl Axmacher, Jr.

Survivors include her daughter, Janet M. (Jim) Nance of Chickamauga; 14 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Woodrow "Gene" Eugene Bailey of LaFayette died Thursday, December 13, 2012, at NHC of Rossville. He was 72.

He was a lifelong resident of LaFayette. He was born to the late Woodrow Wilson Bailey and Faye Raines Bailey on December 29, 1939.

Survivors include his daughter, Stephanie Gwyn Groce and husband Edward of Ringgold; son, Woodrow E. Bailey, Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Ala.; grandchildren, Abigail Bailey, Duke and Tristan Edward Groce.

Bernice Brown of LaFayette died at her home on Friday, December 14, 2012. She was 87.

She was a lifelong resident of LaFayette and a member of the Second Baptist Church in LaFayette.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Homer and Emma Brock Dobson; husband, Willard James Brown; brothers, Leroy, Oliver, and Johnny Dobson; and sister, Doris Scoggins.

Thank you to her church family at Second Baptist for the help with caregiving during the past couple of months. Special thanks to Linda Gilreath, Barbara Jonez, Judy Shirley, and Louise Underwood. She was a very special lady who cherished her family and loved doing for others.

James Vance Harvey, Jr., 64, Ringgold

James Vance Harvey, Jr., of Ringgold died Friday, December 14, 2012. He was 64.

He had lived in the Chattanooga and north Georgia areas for most of his life and was of the Baptist faith. He was a Marine Corps veteran who served in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart. He enjoyed working on cars, fishing as much as possible and was a loving and devoted father, who will be greatly missed by all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, J.V. and Unave Harvey, Sr.; and brother, Charles Harvey.

Survivors include his two sons and daughter-in-law, James “J.J.” and Kristy Harvey of Ringgold and Jonathan Harvey of Dayton, Tenn.; daughter, Cassie Turner of Fort Oglethorpe; brother, Frankie Harvey of Wildwood; sister, Patricia Harvey of Chattanooga, Tenn.; seven grandchildren, Alyssa, Bronson and Daisia Sewell, Leaunna Turner, Jamie Harvey, Whitney Strickland and Brandi Strickland-Jobe; great-grandchild, Alexis Jobe; and several nieces and nephews.

Sarah Louise Starling of Rossville died Sunday, December 16, 2012, in a local hospital. She was 85.

She was a lifelong resident of Walker County and attended the Rossville Church of God. She loved quilting and won several awards throughout the southeast. She worked at Peerless Woolen Mills and Dupont before retiring to become a homemaker.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Starling; sisters, Lottie Jean Ellis, Wilma Lee Osburn, and Mamie Genell Dodd; brother, Conrad H. Ellis.

Survivors include her daughter, Ramona (Doug) Madaris of Chickamauga; sister, Shirley Doggett of Indiana; grand-children, Scott (Julia) and Gary April) Madaris; great-grandchildren, Josh, Jonah, Blake and Bryant Madaris.
