Hospice of Chattanooga will host a special memorial service for the north Georgia community on Tuesday, Jan. 12, in Fort Oglethorpe. The service will celebrate the lives of Hospice of Chattanooga patients who died between June 1 and Nov. 30, 2009.

The service will include a lighting of candles, music, as well as a reading of each deceased patient’s name. After the program concludes, a reception will be held so those in attendance will have the opportunity to meet and visit with the Hospice of Chattanooga staff.

Hospice of Chattanooga provides hospice care and other services to eight counties in north Georgia, including Walker and Catoosa. Of the patients being celebrated at the service, more than 100 of them were from the north Georgia region.

Hospice of Chattanooga, which serves more than 550 patients each day, was founded in 1981, and is the largest non-profit hospice in Tennessee. It also provides more than a half-million dollars in unfunded care to families in Tennessee and Georgia each year.

The service will take place at 5:30 p.m. at the Church of the Nativity at 1201 Cross St. in Fort Oglethorpe. It is an opportunity for families, the staff, and the community as a whole to gather in remembrance of hospice patients who died during the last six months of 2009.
