Two local 4-H members recently represented Walker County 4-H at the AgGeorgia Farm Credit Heifer Show in Calhoun, Ga. This was an area show with participants from throughout the Northwest Georgia area.

The Walker County 4-H members involved in the show were Wayne Manning and Logan Edwards. Both of the individuals did well as they represented Walker County. Wayne Manning, 4-H member from LaFayette Middle School, took first place in class four of the commercial or cross-bred division of the show. Logan Edwards, 4-H member from Gordon Lee High School, placed second in class one of the same division.

The heifer show season is currently in full swing. The local youth involved in the project will get to show their heifers again at the Dade County Ag Center Dec. 19. Then, after the first of the year they will have the opportunity to attend several other shows before traveling to Perry to compete in the state show in February.

For more information about these upcoming shows or the 4-H livestock program contact the Walker County Extension Office at 638-2548.

Norman Edwards is coordinator of Walker County Extension Service.
